I got deceived while selling Scrap gold

How could somebody be so stupid to get deceived by a salesman? These is exactly what I said after getting to know that my son got deceived by the shop assistant in Georgetown years ago. He was 5 then, and the sum it was all about was around 10 dollars. Now I got it all back, all my rudeness and conceit. But slowly... I went to a goldsmith to sell my wife"s old golden earrings and stuff. A young man was the shop assistant and the owner I think at once. "Hi, how much can I get for this Scrap gold?" In my thoughts I was expecting to hear just a sum around a few hundreds bucks. I needed that money so much, we wanted to go on holidays and our savings turned out to be insufficient. But never mind the background, that man behind the desk answered that this is not real gold and he cannot offer me a regular Scrap gold price. After some 5 minutes of conversation I got confused and the cheater convinced me that what I had was just a piece of metal covered with a golden surface. A really small Scrap gold as he described it. I got 40 dollars cash for gold, packed it and went home. Now there is an article about the very goldsmith I visited.. and it is about deceiving people on large amounts of money... I suppose I could get at least 3 times that much cash for gold in any other place, but one has to pay for his mistakes.
